Last Tuesday, June 23, 2015, I had cataract surgery on the left eye. This was only two weeks after the initial surgery on the right. I was actually more frighten this time. I knew what to expect and it made the procedure more unnerving. Everything went very well and during the surgery I could see with my right eye. I hadn't expected to be able to see anything with my right eye. I couldn't see the surgery taking place only equipment and the ceiling. But being able to see was different and it surprised me. The day after the surgery, it was wonderful to get the shield removed from the eye and see with 25/20 vision. My eyes are still adjusting to reading print. I am sometimes able to read a novel or magazine. However, there are times that my vision blurs. It is like my brain is not able communicate with my eyes. So currently I am learning to see with new lenses. I went to see the new Jurassic Park Movie with my son and it was amazingly clear. In fact, I realized I couldn't remember seeing a movie so clearly. I have a deeper appreciation of my sight. I have been surprised by the robust green colour of trees. I also was able to see birds and planes that I had missed for so long. On July 1, 2015, was my one week appointment. I missed only one letter for 20/20 for distance and reading. YIPPIE! I cannot wait to go to Bear Island and see the brown pelicans coasting over the waves and I can't help wondering what I have been missing.
